I've been interested in art since I was a kid. I specifically remember drawing animals in 2nd grade and receiving praise from family and teachers. The encouragement stuck, and I've been drawing ever since. My dad is also an artist, so I grew up seeing his paintings throughout our home.
In high school I was very involved in music and arts programs. I participated in advanced art classes during my junior and senior year and received local art scholarships for college. I moved to Colorado and attended the Art Institute of Colorado in Denver, where I studied graphic design for 2 years. This is where I started to focus more on digital design and illustration.
My travels eventually brought me back to my hometown in Missouri, where I rekindled my love for drawing animals and traditional mediums of art.
Over the past 15 years I've created oil paintings, acrylic paintings, watercolor, and digital art. My subjects are usually animals and nature scenes. I love to research hidden meaning and symbolism associated with the animals I paint. I also still create digital art and custom logos, so my art skills are quite a mixed bag! There's a little something for everyone here.
I have always been inspired by the beauty of nature. I am interested in animals and music, and either one of those will spark creativity in me.
Another motivation of mine is learning about animal folk lore, hidden meanings, and cultural symbolism in animals. I will incorporate the meanings into my paintings.
Music also heavily influences my art. Ideas start popping into my head when I hear songs and lyrics that I want to bring it to life through paint and design.
